Engagement Glossary

Correlation:  Statistics = the degree to which two or more variables are related and change together.  In our surveys, the "Actionable Items" that are most highly correlated to "Outcome Items" or the "Overall Engagement Score"  are considered "Drivers" of those outcome items or Overall Engagement..

Actionable Items:  Those questions that we can affect directly.  IE:  If Staff score us low on "I have enough tools and equipment to do my job" we can take action to improve that.  These items or questions can be customized to reflect Client's specific culture, business environment, climate, etc.

Outcome Items:  Those questions that indicate how we are doing in certain important  area of Staff Engagement. IE:  "I am proud to tell friends that I work for this organization" or "I would stay at this organization even if offered another job for the same or slightly higher pay somewhere else" or "Overall, I am a satisfied with my working conditions".

Engagement Score:  The combined score of all Outcome ItemsThe overall indicator of how engaged our associates are.

Themes/Scales:  Groupings of related Actionable Items to indicate certain critical business indicators such as retention and absenteeism.  These are tested to ensure reliability of scores.  Reliability (Cronbach's Alpha) will be based on Client results, thereby providing results specific to Client.

Drivers:  The Actionable Items most highly correlated with Engagement or other Themes/Scales.  These are the items on which Management should focus their attention.

Opportunity for Improvement:  The Drivers where a section of the organization scores lower than the overall organization.  This indicates a department or a section with an opportunity to improve Overall Engagement.  While all Drivers are important action items, the Opportunities for Improvement are key.

Action Plans:  The system provides each executive/manager with the opportunity to articulate his/her plans for action as a result of the survey.  Further, the Action Plan is customized for each manager.  When the manager goes into his/her Action Plan it is pre-loaded with his/her scores on the Actionable Items that are identified as Drivers at the manager's VP level for each Theme/Scale.  Further, the Action Plan will display the score for the VP's overall group on those Drivers.  The Action Plan will ask the manager to provide input on how he/she will take action where there is Opportunity for Improvement on the Drivers.  The VP has the capability of reviewing all action plans for managers in his/her area of responsibility.
